Around 11 PM, August 6th: “Okay, I’ve finished the video and posted it on YouTube, Bluesky, and IG. I’m tired, but I feel like I’m forgetting something. BUT WHAT?”
About 4 hours later, right before I’m about to go to bed: “Aw, maaan…”
Sorry, people, here’s my little pixel art video in honor of Metroid’s 40th anniversary:
Music is the Metroid theme written by Hip Tanaka and performed by Minibosses (crediting out of respect, I feel like you probably already know).
I re-rendered that first clip with armored and unarmored Samus and noticed the original .ANME (for Anime Studio, before the name switched back to Moho) was dated November 12, 2016. Time flies, and (thankfully) I still like those sprites I made back then. New things: the sprite display of who I’ve sprited in the cast so far and that very early W.I.P. logo sequence.
Happy 40th Anniversary to Metroid, a game that let me scratch that exploration itch that Superman for the Atari 2600 started and the Legend of Zelda made even stronger.
There may be a teeny-tiny 1989-themed update on the 9th if (glares at penciled artwork) I can get something here finished.
Also, a heads-up: after decades of use, even paying to keep it going once Lycos changed its terms years ago, my primeop@mailcity.com and primeop@lycos.com addresses no longer work as Lycos recently shut down that section. I had that address even longer than my sites! So I’ll have to do something I should’ve done years ago and fix the contact info in all my ancient downloads.
