GLC Corps and Transformers
August 28th, 2026 by PrimeOp

– DC Comics: Green Lantern Corps now has its own sub-gallery! It’s just in time, because I’m adding new sprites of members Tomar-Re/Tomar-Tu, Medphyll, and NautKeLoi that use a new thin GL sprite base I’m working on. There will be more Green Lantern-related sprites popping up through the rest of the year!
Toys: I got Studio Series 86 Megatron a few weeks ago, so I finally took a Decepticon group pic.

GFX Generators: all new custom sprites have been added to the main generator, along with two new backgrounds. One is beta 2 of the Green Lantern Central Power Battery. “What happened to beta 1?” You’ve seen teases of it over the years, and I think part of it is in a Superhero Sprite Showcase video in a “3 comic cover” style display.

The second background is a new all-Transformers toy aisle. The set-up is similar to the Transformers aisle of my 3D toy section backgrounds, look closely you’ll see the 2D debut of toy items and background details not in the earlier versions here.

Time for me to thank anyone who has subscribed to the ScrollBoss YouTube channel, which just hit 1,000 subscribers this week! I’m going to make a Thank You video and will try to have it ready by next week.

Voice actor Peter Cullen brought life to a lot of characters, but many of us know him as the original Optimus Prime. Those of us who grew up watching Transformers heard something in the character that we probably didn’t understand at the time, but it was more than a great voice. The writers created a leader who truly cared about those he fought beside and those he’d sworn to protect, and Cullen found a way to make that feel more real than you’d expect in a cartoon based on a toyline. That happened because it came from a very real source.

R.I.P. and thank you, Peter Cullen.

The Revenge of 1989 – Abigail and the lobby
August 9th, 2026 by PrimeOp

No, the post title isn’t an arthouse movie you missed, that’s what’s in the update. Couldn’t let the 8th month’s 9th day go by without at least a little 1989 flavor, so Abigail from Final Fight gets a Street Fighter Alpha 3 Vs. portrait!

It’s been added to the custom SFA3 portrait gallery and the SFA 3 GFX Generator, where you can make your own Vs screen with the real portraits from that game and a lot of other Final Fight and other cameo characters. Meanwhile in the main image generator, I’ve finally added the 1989 lobby background that appeared in some videos, but with a brand-new poster: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade!

This was a last minute addition, but it gave me an excuse to look at some posters of the late, great Drew Struzan. This was apparently the earlier poster, but I thought it’d give a clearer look at Indy. I promised Dire51 (the OPCFG and West Mansion) I’d make a poster for Indy when I had the chance, so here it is!

Metroid 40th Anniversary
August 7th, 2026 by PrimeOp

Around 11 PM, August 6th: “Okay, I’ve finished the video and posted it on YouTube, Bluesky, and IG. I’m tired, but I feel like I’m forgetting something. BUT WHAT?”

About 4 hours later, right before I’m about to go to bed: “Aw, maaan…”

Sorry, people, here’s my little pixel art video in honor of Metroid’s 40th anniversary:

Music is the Metroid theme written by Hip Tanaka and performed by Minibosses (crediting out of respect, I feel like you probably already know).

I re-rendered that first clip with armored and unarmored Samus and noticed the original .ANME (for Anime Studio, before the name switched back to Moho) was dated November 12, 2016. Time flies, and (thankfully) I still like those sprites I made back then. New things: the sprite display of who I’ve sprited in the cast so far and that very early W.I.P. logo sequence.

Happy 40th Anniversary to Metroid, a game that let me scratch that exploration itch that Superman for the Atari 2600 started and the Legend of Zelda made even stronger.

There may be a teeny-tiny 1989-themed update on the 9th if (glares at penciled artwork) I can get something here finished.

Also, a heads-up: after decades of use, even paying to keep it going once Lycos changed its terms years ago, my primeop@mailcity.com and primeop@lycos.com addresses no longer work as Lycos recently shut down that section. I had that address even longer than my sites! So I’ll have to do something I should’ve done years ago and fix the contact info in all my ancient downloads.

Spider-Foes: Scorpion and Green Goblin
July 31st, 2026 by PrimeOp

Spider-Man has a new movie in theaters right now, and two of his deadliest enemies are getting new pixel art here!

Marvel Comics: An all-new Green Goblin sprite (replacing my 2020 sprite) and Scorpion debuts with one new pose in 4 designs (60’s, classic with and without tail stinger, and 90s). Don’t be surprised if I make some additional changes to Green Goblin, especially with the palette. More Spider-Man villains will find their way here in the near future, that part of the gallery is far too neglected.

Mini-logos – Marvel: Green Goblin (90’s) and Scorpion (altered Amazing Spider-Man #145 cover) added. I also repixeled Cable’s 90’s solo logo, giving it better contrast and making it 120% wider like CPS2 screens.

The custom sprites and mini-logos were also added to the main image generator, which I used to make the screenshot at the top of this post.

Arcade Quartermaster just updated with some new shrines: Knuckle Joe (early side-scrolling beat ’em up) and Thunderblade!

26th Anniversary
July 19th, 2026 by PrimeOp

This 26th anniversary update may be low key compared to last year’s big 25th anniversary celebration, but today’s newness brings new sprites of one whole sci-fi game trio, completes another sci-fi team, brings in a classic comic book villain who recently became a final boss, and gives a vehicle to another final boss!

Custom Sprites:
Alien Storm (new): long overdue idle stance sprites of Karla, Gordon, and Scooter. I also sprited Karla’s select screen pose.
Donkey Kong (new separate): completely redrawn Donkey Kong Junior
Flicky (new): Flicky
Kid Icarus: Palutena
Mega Man: Dr. Wily in the Wily UFO 2 (open and closed)
Quartet (new separate): Joe and Lee (finally)
Marvel Comics: Annihilus (classic comic)

Mini-logos:
Capcom: Andore (SF6 cutscene)
Nintendo: Kid Icarus
Sega: Flicky
Marvel: Annihilus

Game Index: MARVEL Cosmic Invasion

Toyboss: Took a new TMNT villain group pic, adding the VHS box ‘toon Foot Soldier.

New custom sprites and mini-logos added to the GFX Generators.

This will probably be the last time I do an anniversary update like this, so next year’s will be different. PROBABLY, it depends on how certain things I’m working on turn out between now and then. The main thing is to not just have another “bigger update than usual.” The main thing is to still do something special for all the people who still come through to check out this old website.

Here’s a couple of teasers from recent sprite linework scans and all I’ll say is that’s both of them are super-villains.

Thank you for visiting the site and I hope you come back for more pixels and fun when you get the chance!
