Ninja Gaiden (arcade)
200x100 GFX Company: Tecmo
Genre: Beat 'em up
Released: USA: 1988
A ninja (or a pair of ninja if a second player joins in) journeys to the United States on a mission to fight evil. The battles take place in different cities around the country until the final battle happens in the main villain's lair. The first game in the series is almost the exact opposite of the other Ninja Gaiden games since there isn't much of a storyline and the game doesn't take itself very seriously.

Depending on who you ask, most of the Ninja Gaiden sub-series aren't fully related to each other. Except for the Dead or Alive series and beyond, you can almost argue that each console has it's own series since they all seem to have their own stories with bits of the other games appearing here and there. It varies from the minor callbacks in the NES version to how the unfinished Mega Drive/Genesis game borrows most of the arcade enemy list. You may be able to cobble together some sort of continuity between them all but it doesn't seem as if the designers had that in mind.
