2026: Let’s take it to the stage, sucka
January 23rd, 2026 by PrimeOp
A little later than I’d planned, here’s the first newness for 2026!
– Mario series: added SMB2 select screen wait poses for Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach (80s and later design), and Toad. Tried to make them look even more like the classic art (usually by Yoichi Kotabe) while fitting the earlier sprites I’d made.
– Valis: An all-new Yuko (or Yuuko) sprite with a pose mostly based on older artwork.
– Illmosis: Nutroll gets a new sprite that reworks the base used for the sign-holding sprites from 2025, and the guards from the Inborn Correctional Institute (or Inborn Containment Institute) get an updated design and two uniform colors.
– Mega Man: a sprite of Mega Man looking at the camera with his arms down. Honestly, it’s the 2024 test sprite from when I tried to start my own style of Mega Man sprites that still kept the MvC flavor, I just didn’t think it had any use until now.
All new custom sprites were added to the GFX Generators, which I used to make the screenshots for this update. Also added was the Super Mario Bros. 2 select screen, where you can make up your own lineups!
It’s been kind of a rough month so far, so I’ve got some unfinished stuff that was supposed to go in this update, and either it’ll be added later or I’ll make a separate small update!
Kickstarter – Pizza Kidd: If you hang out in pixel or beat ’em up circles online, you may have seen previews and WIP shots and footage of the Pizza Kidd project over the years, so now it’s the fans’ turn to get a slice of the action:
Time to close out 2025 with the last update of the year!
Custom Sprites: made various gallery fixes thanks to a site visitor who sent me a list. I also made some adjustments to a couple of sprites.
– Shao-lin’s Road: adjusted Wanpyou’s proportions
– G.I.JOE: Made the new Stalker calm stand sprite a bit taller. I’m still going back-and-forth about how tall the new G.I.JOE/soldier template should be (somewhere between Street Fighter Alpha/Zero height and Marvel-Capcom height), so I’ll have to make a more solid decision before I do more.
I’ve been going almost non-stop since October (or earlier) and haven’t really had much time to relax, so I’m taking a bit of a break before I get back to work on the site and videos. The first 2026 update for this site will probably hit in the last half of January.
Current plans for 2026: The few I’ll admit to working on are easing back into making line art on a regular basis (AI sloposphere be damned) and some new image generator fun. And, because people are surprisingly demanding it, more Nutroll! Thanks for coming through in 2025 and hopefully 2026 will be a better year!
Outside news:
Sadly, it looks like River City Ransom: Underground is going to be delisted soon, so buy it on Steam while you can. I backed the Kickstarter and it’s still one of my favorite unexpected series returns, especially for a beat ’em up. I hope the people who worked on it can find a way to get it back out there later.
A public demo for ‪the IKEMEN-powered “CAPCOM vs Square: Parallel Destinies” fan game is available on the project’s website!
There’s a video up for Astro (a.k.a. Scorpion) in the Final Fight Forever (ver 0.33) OpenBOR project!
The download link is on the video’s page. I was honored to make some of the select portraits for the project, and Astro’s may be one of the best I drew. I downloaded the latest version and definitely plan to see how he plays when I get the time.
Toy Update December 2025
December 24th, 2025 by PrimeOp
While it’s no surprise that there’s a toy-related update waiting for you on Christmas Eve, the real surprise is that you’re finally getting some game-related sprites!
Custom Sprites:
– Toy Pop: new gallery with brand-new sprites of heroes Pino and Acha!
– G.I.JOE: adds new pose for Hawk with a modified “calm stand” base (like a few other G.I.JOE original 13 characters this year) and updated his 2019 sprite to match it.
– Princess of Power: (added Dec. 25th) Glimmer
The new sprites and mini-logo were added to the main GFX Generator, where I made the pic at the top of this post. Also, a new background with the Playmates Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toyline was added to the Group, Vs., MvC ending, 88×136, and box screenstyles!
ToyBoss: I planned to have more pictures, but pre-orders of two of the figures that were going to be in those pictures have been delayed (the Kirby Nendo reissue got delayed to next May!). But today’s update finally adds pics of the Punisher/Nick Fury two-pack based on Capcom’s arcade game, and retaking the line-up of the Konami X-Men with the new Cyclops/Marvel Girl two-pack. But I also made huge progress catching up on Jakks’ Sega figures, finally getting the Altered Beast Werewolf, Shinobi Joe Musashi, Golden Axe’s Gilius Thunderhead (now I have him in TWO scales!), and Streets of Rage’s Roo! Jakks’ scale for these hover around 5-inches, but I think some fit in with other scales. I took a few pics to show how they look next to 52Toys 4-inch scale Capcom line. So while most of them look big compared to the others, the Werewolf fits.
Whatever it is you celebrate around this time of year, I hope it’s a good, safe, and peaceful one!
Final Fight 2025 update
December 17th, 2025 by PrimeOp
Teased almost a year ago in the 2024 Wrap-Up video, the standalone Final Fight Sprite Showcase video is here! There’s also a site update to go along with it.
Custom Sprites – Final Fight:
– main gallery: a lady audience member from the US arcade bezel art. I’ve had a modified version of her pop up in a few videos, and she’ll be in a few more. These have been added to the main and solo galleries:
– Abigail: starts his new solo sub-gallery with an all-new idle sprite (part FF, part SFV)
– Rolento: scratch-made SFA2 ending pose, like the SFA2 edit I made long ago.
– Mike Haggar: finally made a Final Fight 3 outfit version of the FF1 idle sprite, and updated the FF1 sprite in the original outfit.
– Guy: Final Fight 3 version of Guy’s ‘arms crossed’ win pose.
– Poison and Roxy: updated the “back turned” pose and added a lot of outfit variations, including SF III, SFIV, and SFV.
– Bred, Dug, Jake, Simons: all-new scratch-made low idle sprite
All new custom sprites were added to the GFX Generators, which I used to make the screenshot-looking graphics earlier in the post.
And now, our featured presentation: the 2025 Final Fight Sprite Showcase!
Many of the old clips have been updated and new ones have been added, including character-focused displays for Mike Haggar and Poison, a new work .GIF for the 2021 Haggar sprite, and a taste of some post Final Fight 1 stuff. Working on those single-character displays for game characters in the same way I do them for the Superhero videos makes me want to try some short single-character game showcases in the future, and I’ll make sure some of the other Final Fight series characters get them.
Next week: a toy section update with new pics added to the toy section, starring the Marvel Legends Punisher/Nick Fury two-pack.
The following week: the 2025 Wrap-Up!
Decmeber 2025 heads-up
December 12th, 2025 by PrimeOp
These updates are on the way for this month.
Current plans for this month:
1.) a Final Fight update with new sprites, some updated sprites (Poison fans REALLY need to be ready), and a Sprite Showcase video based mostly on the first game.
2.) a Wrap-Up update, probably with a video attached, including a ToyBoss section update. New ToyBoss section pics include the recently released Punisher & Nick Fury two-pack based on the Capcom game. The hype was so real that I almost immediately remade the box in pixel form and even low-poly 3-D form for the toy aisle backgrounds.
The Final Fight update drops on the 17th, The Wrap-Up happens between then and New Year’s Eve. If the Wrap-Up doesn’t happen before Christmas, there will be a third update with the toy stuff that’ll happen Christmas week.
