Spider-Man and the X-Men in Arcade's Revenge (snes)
200x100 GFX Company: LJN, Software Creations
Genre: Platformer
Released: USA: 1992
Each character has their own control scheme and must make their way through a unique type of level made just for them, which is similar to how Arcade operates in the actual comics. Spider-Man and Wolverine's levels are standard platformer scene that let you use their respective powers to make your way through enemies to reach the end of the stage and fight a robot based on one of their enemies. Gambit's levels are auto-scrolling paths filled with traps like bottomless pits, spikes and a giant rolling ball of death. Cyclops is trapped in another platform level that has him jumping and travelling in mine carts (yes, really) while fight robots made to look like anti-mutant Genoshan forces. Storm's levels are water-filled mazes that force her to find oxygen ports while also trying to find her way to the boss and the exit.

This was Arcade's second stint as a video game villain, with the side-scroller/quest X-Men game for various computers (including the C-64) being his first. Honestly, you're not likely to find another villain more suited to being the end boss of a video game. The other enemies in the game are merely Arcade's robots made to look like villains and this explains why some act completely out of character.

Like most X-Men games from this time period, Some of the in-game artwork is based on Jim Lee's artwork for X-Men #1. The title screen's art uses the Gambit, Storm and Wolverine from that issue's cover. That makes it a bit more glaring that this game has Cyclops wearing an outfit that he hadn't worn for nearly two years when this game was made and he'd changed uniforms three times by then (the version with visible hair, the Portacio-era black-and-yellow gear and the famous Jim Lee design). This also happens to be the same outfit worn by his 1991 Toy Biz action figure and that is a possible x-factor of why they were used. Yes, I'm sorry for that last joke.
