Double Dragon (arcade)
200x100 GFX Company: Technos
Genre: Beat 'em up
Released: USA: 1987 JPN: 1987
Twin brothers and Billy and Jimmy Lee must rescue student/love interest Marian from the Black Warriors gang. You must battle the thugs through five areas (or missions) from the city slums to a Black Warrior fortress. After you're done with the bad guys, both brothers battle each other with Marian as the prize.

Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun (a.k.a. Renegade) may have been Technos' first step of evolving the beat-em-up genre but this follow-up is far more influential. The Kung-Fu Master styled games were mostly one player affairs until Double Dragon's popularity made the two player simultaneous play mode a must-have for arcade beat-em-ups. Double Dragon set many other walk 'n brawl gaming standards including the kidnapped woman in the red dress, use of dropped weapons, grapping, throwing, whip-carrying bad girl enemies and the final boss' use of a rapid-fire gun.

As many places mention, Double Dragon has a lot of references to Enter the Dragon. The twin brothers share Bruce Lee's last name while Bolo (Bolo who was known as Yang Sze when it was filmed), Roper (John Saxon) & Williams (Jim Kelly) are also names of the characters in the movie. You know, Bruce Lee's wife is named Linda but maybe that's just a coincidence.
