ToyBoss: Additions to the galleries, mainly of the 52Toys Captain Commando figures outside of their packaging, including a group shot of the team and another with Cap next to Hasbro’s MvC:I Ryu and Bandai’s 66mm Mega Man so you can see how they scale next to each other.

I planned to have more toy photos added in the site anniversary update a few weeks ago, but July has kept me really busy in some unfun ways. But I’ve gotten even more things since then. The first Target run I’ve made in a long time led to finding a Jakks SMB Toad (completing the SMB 2 line-up!) and a regular Bebop and Rocksteady set by NECA. I think I’ve bought more NECA this year than every other year put together, they’re getting better about keeping their stuff available. Marvel Legends Ghost Rider (paid for with a lot of gift cards) and classic Warbird/Carol Danvers help fill out two of the 3D Marvel vs. Capcom game rosters. This is the first time I’ve ever had toys of Ghost Rider AND his bike. I have unboxed pics of Ghost Rider and Shredder’s two favorite henchmen on the ToyBoss page.

Toad, Bebop, and Rocksteady boxed and cardedboxed Marvel Legends Warbird Carol Danvers and Ghost Rider

While we’re talking about toys, one of the big San Diego Comic-Con toy announcements was for a Marvel Legends two-pack of Sentinels based on the Konami game, including the rock that a few of them use to throw at the player. The Hasbro Pulse store exclusive sold out the day that it went up, but keep an eye out for it to be back in stock, possibly during the Pulsecon event in October. Hopefully they make more of these than they did those Hellfire Club troops.

August is almost here and that means the site will be in the revenge business on the 9th. Eight month, Ninth day? Yes, it’s time for that theme again, and it’s going to be more than one update.

I’m done with commission work for a while, so I’m back with a few real updates!

The ToyBoss section was updated with more new photos and up-to-date roster photos. One is a quick shot I took yesterday of my still-carded Captain Commando figures by 52Toys, now that I just got my Ninja Commando from AliBaba. Still waiting on my Baby Commando pre-order at HLJ, so I think I’ll hold out on opening them until I get the whole crew. The three figures I have look great and I haven’t even uncarded them yet, and I’m definitely keeping the cards for the artwork once I open them all. Speaking of complete crews, I managed to get the other three Target-exclusive “Pizza Club” Ninja Turtle figures by NECA. This is the first set of Turtles I gotten since the original Playmates figures from the 80s. I was going to (and still may) get all the Loyal Subjects BST AXN Turtles (I only have Raph for now), but I saw these announced months ago and plotted to get them. The BST AXN Turtles are still good, but I think the NECA Turtles themselves scale better when next to other toylines.

Speaking of toy line crossovers, I also added a new “Scale Wars” section with a few photos of figures from different lines standing next to each other to show how they scale. Some of these may help if you’re thinking of mixing and matching toylines or trying to figure out sizes for cross-line toy fodder.

With X-Men hype at a fever pitch again after the 10-episode run of X-Men ’97, there will be some new mutant-related sprites hitting the site next week!

The coding work to get this site (along with Illmosis and Beans vs. Cornbread) for the Dreamhost server update is FINALLY done, but I promised to have an update to the a ToyBoss section before that happens and here’s that update!

new:
– Jada Toys’ excellent Street Fighter Ryu and Fei Long figures.
– Golden Axe: added shot of Storm Collectibles Tyris and Gilius.
– X-Men (LJN) – playable heroes.
– Spider-Man and the X-Men get their own revenge of Arcade.
– an Articulated Icons/Fwoosh parts-swapped custom made to look like Ryu Hayabusa. They have pre-orders up for a reissued (and from what I’ve read, slightly retooled) Crimson Fury, the dark red ninja.
– The Marvel Super Heroes (Capcom) heroes team, with a work-in-progress custom figure of Psylocke!

updated group shots:
– Captain America and the Avengers (Data East) – heroes – added new Sky-cycle Hawkeye and a recently re-acquired Neo-classic Iron Man (retro card version).
– X-Men (Konami) – villains – includes a customized VHS Mystique and more added characters.

BTW: Articulated Icons/Fwoosh is still having a sale on “Sakit (Martial Artist)” and the “Arms/Hands/Wraps Pack (Red)” pack ($3.99!) and also put up have pre-orders up for a reissued Crimson Fury, the dark red ninja.

The big coding update will hit this site within the first few days of September, so if you really need something from the site I suggest you get it before then, because I really won’t know if everything works until it’s uploaded and tested. The site may be temporarily closed until it’s all complete, but it shouldn’t take longer than a day.

Oddly enough, I made a new header for the Toy section, but the coding is connected with the updated version of the site, so you won’t see it until then.

I’ve been working on some pixel art commissions this month, so there isn’t much new, though I quietly threw a few new things into the image generators through the month. I’ll explain later.

Mini-logos: SNK the King of Fighters ’94 and Garou: Mark of the Wolves
minilogo_index.php?g=snk

GFX Generators:
– characters: Rock Howard, Benimaru Nikaido, Chang Koehan(KoF), Choi Bounge (KoF), Goro Daimon, Hibiki Takane (the Last Blade), all in CvS-series form. Really, they’ve been in there for most of this month, quietly added over time after a frequent commenter pointed out they were missing.
– Boxes, Flyer & Posters 160×192: I added some alternate character layouts, but no thumbnail previews for them because I’m still tweaking them. If people like how these work, I’ll add them where I can (unfortunately certain Group and Vs. screenstyles backgrounds would make it VERY tricky there).

ToyBoss: Added a few more game roster shots, including incomplete rosters of the heroes and villains from Konami’s X-Men and a complete group of boss villains from Sega’s Spider-Man the Video Game arcade beat ’em up.

I’ve got all the Marvel Legends build-a-figure parts for Bone Breaker of the Reavers (seen in Konami’s X-Men as a drone enemy and Capcom’s The Punisher as a boss), so new pics of them are in the update. The newest arrival, just a few days ago, was that new repaint of the early 90’s Iron Man that comes packed with the Proton Cannon made legendary by Capcom’s fighting games. I’ve added pics including them along this shot of that Iron Man with the Funko Mega Man figure:

The Marvel vs. Capcom 2 cab is a Hasbro Fortnite accessory cabinet with labels from Shelf Presents and that 90s carpet is a RepliCade UV Base Pad by New Wave Toys (and it does work under blacklight).

My commission work isn’t done yet (see bottom of post for details), so it’ll still be a while before I can post a full site update. But here’s something

Mini-logos:
Marvel: Black Knight, White Queen.

Custom Sprite Downloads:
– name graphics for Darkstalkers 3 (link fixed, sorry about that!) and X-Men Children of the Atom. These were made from WinKawaks screenshots of the original names and includes the names from the game lineups and a lot of customized names from their respective universes and some crossovers. These are the exact same files I use in this site’s image generators, including characters who aren’t even in the generator yet.

Custom Sprite galleries: All of the Kunio-Kun-related galleries are now connected by a hub at the bottom of the gallery, the “cabinet art” Pac-Man sprite is no longer missing from the Pac-Man gallery, Rick Taylor has a sub-gallery within the Splatterhouse gallery.

The ToyBoss section was updated with new group shots for the heroes (playable) and villains for Captain America and the Avengers by Data East. The heroes pic only has 3 out 4 four accurate figures, because I still need to replace the retro/vintage Iron Man (the Neo-classic armor) I lost in ’20. The pic features the brand-new Marvel Legends 20 Years version of Cap, easily the best figure of him I’ve ever owned. The custom Red Skull I made late last year is front and center of the updated villains pic that also adds the long-awaited ML classic Ultron that hit the Marvel Legends line last year.

I can finally reveal that the commissions I’m working on are for Fight Forever, a beat ’em up fan game by the legendary Mr. Q! Two of the portraits I’ve made are in this preview video where the REAL star is that select screen music, which should make any Final Fight fan feel right at home:

I’m not sure when I’ll be done with everything, but I’ll try to at least get a small update together for May, and I’ll share links about the Fight Forever project and any other work I get into until I can get back to working on the site again.

I promised a ToyBoss/Toybox section update a while back, so here it isn’t. It’s here, but not everything I’d planned to do yet. I’ve added a few new photos, the beginning of section for how much of a game’s roster I have right now, and links to the toy-related custom sprite galleries. I also added links to toy sellers and/or makers I’ve ordered from and have seen that they won’t try to swindle you (unless you specifically order that Combaticon, then they’ll actually sell him to you).

One of those makers sells a dream-come-true item, the Articulated Icons line. the 1:12 scale (think Marvel Legends, DC Universe classics, most Storm Collectables figures) martial arts line, now famous for their Godfrey Ho-esque array of ninjas in various colors. I mentioned these figures a while back when I ordered my first ninja, a gray one that I will eventually customize into Sega’s Joe Musashi in his Genesis-era Shinobi gear. Now I’ve got 3 Brown ninja, Shokan in White ninja outfit, and a bare arms accessory pack (and I’ll be getting more).

They’re built for customization, so you can pop out the arms at the shoulder and switch ’em. They’re also super-poseable, so they’re good for drawing reference, too. They’ve got a sale going on for many of their figures, so jump on it while the jumping’s good!

Now that I’m kinda on break right now, I’ll be taking and posting more figure pics. I’ve been rebuilding after the loss of most of my Marvel Legends collection last June, and so I’m taking way more photos now instead of waiting for every roster to be 100%, being able to put together a really good set-up, or having a good camera. More toy section updates are on the way!

April Fools Day is tomorrow, and I’ll be adding some things to the image generators so you can make your own screenshots (along with the one-day return of the April Fools Day index pic on the start page).

“But I’m not even supposed to be here today!”

First things first, if you’re reading this on the site’s main menu, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, the layout’s slightly different. I’ve moved the header, added some new header images (with many more to come) and rearranged a few other things, but I’m not done yet. Please expect more main menu mutations in the near future.

Toybox/ToyBoss: “Wait, there’s a toy section on this site?” Yeah, a small toy section was made for the site back when the game-related figures I wanted were in my ramen-life price range. That was an entire era of G.I. JOE figures ago (the Joe vs. Cobra/Spy Troops/Valor vs. Venom style that most of the customs are in). This was originally going to be part of the Karnovember update, but I kept wanting to make sure it debuted with new things, like new pics of the G.I.JOE Radd Spencer and Rolento customs, because I didn’t have a camera when I finished the last details on the figures and kept forgetting to take shots with the new camera. I also added some other quick pics, including a couple of Marvel beat ’em up and side-scroller teams that I’ve completed in Marvel Legends scale. I’ve got ideas for better photo set-ups in the future, so just know that I didn’t revive this part of the site just to let it rot again.

Game Index: added Spider-Man (arcade)

Custom Sprites:
Masters of the Universe: Mer-Man and Catra (Filmation designs)
G.I. JOE: Hawk (versions 1 and 2)
Horror: because it’s Friday the 13th, Jason has an updated version of the Pt. III outfit/Pt. VII Axe kill pose (seen on the NES cart box). The shading is now closer to the version seen in the Horror 3 vs. 3 print. I also condensed the Friday the 13th section so Jason and his mother have sub-galleries with their older sprites.

As usual, all the new custom sprites have been added to the image generators, and the fighter-scale image generator now has the series 5 G.I.JOE card added to the G.I.JOE layout (with an explosion obviously based on the new Hawk sprite’s shape).

Custom Sprites: Joe & Mac finally get fighter-sized custom sprites and their own gallery, but they’re not alone! It’s Karnovember, so the “Joe & Mac Returns” version of Karnov is there, too!

Mini-Logos: Guest pixel arist Sage Freehaven has sent more mini-logos to add! Since there’s now non-wrestling logos there, I made a main gallery for Sage Freehaven’s work and updated the original wrestling gallery. Also updated were:
Data East: Joe & Mac, Joe & Mac Returns
Compile: Compile’s logo

GFX Generators:
– added: Joe & Mac
– updated: Karnov, Sakura (MSH vs SF Sunburned palettes), Captain America (fixed/added U.S. Agent palettes)
